Lifetime Achievement Award 2007
Bill and Jean Thompson first met when Jean joined Huyton Phab as a young woman in 1969. Later, after their marriage they moved to St Helens, an area which didn’t have a Phab Club and Jean and Bill decided that they would form one. They ran a very successful club whilst they raised their two girls and when they moved from St Helens they left a Phab legacy which still flourishes today.
In 1980 they moved to Runcorn and soon joined Phab there and the following year they took over the running of the Club at Halton where today Bill is President and Jean in Chairperson. It was in this position that Jean has honed her great organisational skills arranging foreign holidays and weekends away, chairing committee meetings and organising weekly programmes. Bill has made and continues to make a huge contribution to Phab on both a regional and national level.
In addition, both find the time and unlimited energy to organise a hugely successful fundraising operation contributing much needed funds towards Phab’s work with the clubs and young people’s projects.
It is for their sheer dedication and enormous support to this Charity over more than thirty five years that the Snowdon Award to mark Phab’s Golden Jubilee was unanimously awarded to Jean and Bill Thompson.
